House Plan Design & Structural Engineering Drawing
Description

PROBLEM – Our client engaged us to design and build her cottage. We had one major challenge. Marlborough is well known for its black soils and wetlands. The design that was initially proposed was not updated and did not have specifications that are required for a house being built in a wetland.

WORK DONE –

House Plan Design & Structural Engineering Drawing – We redesigned the cottage taking into considerations the client’s previous need, the current trends and the allowed space coverage for that land portion. After the 2D design, through our town planning department we assisted our client to get the plan approved. When the plan was approved, we did soil testing to gain knowledge on which foundations is best suitable for the land. After digging, we found out that the water was close to the ground meaning there was need for special foundations. We then designed the Structural engineering drawing for our client.

Foundation – After clearing the land and setting out, we excavated where our bases and columns where to start. To reach the specified depth, we had to fight with underground water which made it hard to excavate to needed depth. After a successful yet rigorous excavations, we then fixed our steel for the bases and columns. Mixing and pouring of concrete was done on site since we did not our Pre-mix concrete due to the size of the project. After curing, we then prepared for the slab level.

Slab level – In all this work, our carpenters were working hand in hand with the builders to ensure the columns are well shuttered. After preparing the steel for the slab, carefully following the specifications on the design, we shuttered with timber on all sides. Concrete was then poured for the slab. Curing was done for 2 weeks before any works would continue.
